New global AviList just announced!

In June 2025, it was announced that the AviList, a unified global checklist of the world’s birds, was live. Created by experts from around the world, the AviList will be the authority on taxonomy of the world’s birds. This means there should no longer be differences between the major ornithological organisations, making bird identification, research, and data analysis more streamlined. Birdata will be implementing the AviList, however, this will take some time to implement.

For now, you can access the existing Working List, as we work to integrate the AviList. In the meantime, you can access the Working List of Australian Birds (Version 4.3) by clicking the button below. The most recent update was on October 19th 2023.

Birdata is currently operating with Version 2 of the Working List of Australian Birds. The full taxonomy will be updated in our systems in future, to ensure that Birdata matches our official species list. Future Working Lists will be synced with Birdata close to their release dates.
